Nippon - the ultimate battle ground for the Japanese formula car racing. The LSD
for formula cars requires the highest standard. Effectiveness, durability, and
controllability - in every respect it has to be the best. In addition, due to
the dry sump method used for formula car, LSD operates with only tiny scattered
oil particles. A normal iron plates cannot achieve its objectives in the race
under these conditions. ATS
took this challenge and finally after long research and development has released
its carbon LSD for formula racing this season (2001). A higher friction coefficient
and heat resistance of ATS carbon composite disk leads to the revolutionary performance.

What is LSD?
LSD, Limited Slip Differential, is a mechanical device that
allows an automobile to drive faster by limiting the difference which happens
inside the wheel and outside wheel rate at different speeds. An automobile usually
is equipped with a differential to absorb the difference between the outside wheel
rotation and the inside wheel rotation on a corner. However, a normal stock differential
has a disadvantage when you want to go faster. It slips and the automobile can
become unstable. LSD limits the slip which makes a car unstable. ATS-LSD lock
the slip close to 100% resulting in superb stability. An automobile with
ATS-LSD drives faster and has higher stability. Because of this high stability,
the limit of the speed in corners is increased significantly. ATS-LSD works effectively
not only in corners but also in straight courses such as in drag racing. Even
in a straight line, rapid acceleration makes one of the wheel slip. Impact
of the ATS-LSD on a FF Car An
FF Car always has an under steer problem when it is accelerated too hard during
a turn. Therefore, it is critical to reach the clipping point with the angle at
which the full power acceleration is available as soon as possible. A car
which is equipped with an ATS-LSD can approach the clipping point smoothly and
then obtain dramatic acceleration from that point. (See the red car in the accompanying
diagram). Attention!
With ATS LSD oil, the mechanical and chattering noise of the ATS racing LSD is
reduced to minimum level. We do not find the noise level annoying at all. However,
each individual has his/her own tolerance level. We recommend using ATS LSD oil
with your ATS LSD to minimize any such issues. To avoid a surprise, we
recommend you visit the shop and experience the noise level yourself. We also
attend PDA (Performance Driving Association) events and EMRA time trials frequently.
